Yachting in Poland According to historians, yachting in Poland was popular as early as the sixteenth century. Andrzej Zbylitowski, in his poem "Droga do Szwecyey" ["The way to Sweden"] describes the journey of King Zygmunt III.
The first documented sailing regatta The first documented sailing regatta took place on the 1st of October ,1661 on the Thames. The competition was organised by the King Charles II of England, who was a great lover of sailing.
The oldest sailing yacht Probably the oldest sailing yacht in Poland is a vessel called “Złota Kaczka” ["The Golden Duck"]. Tjalk (22.5 meters long and 4.8 meters wide) was launched in Holland in 1903 as "de Drie Gebroeders" ["Three Brothers"].
Women at sea The issue of women at sea has aroused emotions for centuries. One superstition states that a woman on board brings bad luck to the ship and crew and it was believed that a woman possessed power over the sea.
